'Enn fois ou ena diabetes, li reste entier la vie': I've written about it and said that this is not true. [...]
[...] Here I will present 2 cases where the middle aged/elderly have had their diabetes return to normal, that is they no longer have diabetes.
Case 1:
64 yrs old gentleman with type 2 diabetes came to see me as he has collapse and lost consciousness. Been to the hospital and the cause of his collapse was not diagnosed. I not only told him about why he lost consciousness, but also reviewed his diabetes and blood pressure management. He certainly had no further lost of consciousness, but a year since I have been seeing him, even his diabetes decided to part away.
He has not been on any medication for the diabetes as he does not have diabetes anymore.
His initial was HbA1C 8.6% (June 2020) and a year later is 6.1% (June 2021). He weighed 81.5 kg last year and now he weighs only 74 kg. His blood pressure at home remains between 100-120/60-70 mmHg and the blood glucose varies between 5.6- 6 in the morning and between 4.6 - 6 during the day.
He has been off his diabetes medication for the last 4 months and also takes no medication for his blood pressure too. His blood pressure and blood glucose readings remains perfect and well controlled without any medication.
Age therefore is no barrier for getting rid of your diabetes. Weight loss reversed his diabetes, is off his blood pressure medication and is active more than before.
This is what he says is the success of his story:
'Merci doc. Tous les jours, mo alle faire en ti lamarche, 40-45mins, mo control mo mange net'.
Case 2:
This guy is 63 yrs, a year younger than case 1.
I have been seeing him for exactly a year now. His initial Hba1c was 9.7% (01/10/20) and he weighed 76 kg ( 07/10/20). I had then diagnosed with with type 2 diabetes and started him on 2 different medications for the diabetes.
He has now been off his diabetes medication since May 2021 and takes no medication whatsoever. His latest Hba1c is now at 5.5% (no diabetes)- see photo. His home blood glucose readings varies between 4.8- 5.2 throughout the day. His blood pressure varies between 110-130/70-80 mmHg. He currently weighs at 63.90 kg (3 days ago).
His success story: weight loss - 'monn faire beacoup regime'. He has lost 12 kg (equivalent of 15.8% of his original weight.
Evidence has shown that 86% of the people who achieved remission (they no longer have diabetes), had lost over 15 kg of their original weight.
